20 Lessons from 2020 - Part 2

Good morning and Happy New Year!

This is part two of my 2020 lessons! Enjoy it and if you didn’t check out last week’s, here you go!

  • NO EXCUSES

We all can make excuses. I’ve made them. You’ve made them. But what good are they?

No one wants to hear excuses. No one wants to hear how hard you have it. We all face personal challenges.

Instead of saying why you didn’t do it, reframe your language and say “I didn’t do this but will do this better next time.”

  • SLEEP IS GOOD

“I’ll sleep when I die.” That’s not a good motto as you will die sooner rather than later.

The National Sleep Foundation recommends 7-9 hours of sleep.

Did you know adequate sleep can make you more energized, less injury-prone, less irritable, and overall a healthier person?

So start sleeping! I don’t always get enough but one thing I do is put away my damn devices which can decrease your sleep quality.

Start getting those Zzzzz’s!

  • LESS SOCIAL MEDIA IS A GOOD THING

Social media is a huge part of my business but we aren’t on every platform. We also aren’t living on social media.

Did you know that the average adult spends over an hour per day on social media platforms? Yikes!

Social media is fake living. Go out and live your own life instead of seeing what other people are doing, or saying how great their life is.

Social media isn’t always an accurate representation.

Spend more time doing things that matter and limit your social media.

  • YOU CAN’T SOLVE ALL THE WORLD’S PROBLEMS

One person can only do so much. Everyone wants to make the world a better place but you can’t let all the world’s problems bog you down.

If you try to do this, you will fail miserably. Make a difference, inspire others, and do your best.

  • YOU CAN DRINK TOO MUCH COFFEE

I found this out the hard way! My sleep quality suffered and I was relying on that afternoon cup every day.

Coffee can be a good thing but not when you rely on it as I did.

Who else can relate? Get more sleep and make sure your intake isn’t 5-10 cups per day…

  • WE ALL HAVE A STORY WORTH TELLING

No one cares what I think? Have you ever thought that?

That’s so not true. We all have a story worth telling and a life worth living to the fullest.

There are going to be rough patches, roadblocks, and tough times but that's what makes your story more powerful.

What do you want your story to look like? Go make it happen!

  • THERE ARE WINS EVEN IN THE DARKEST OF TIMES

I often send out text messages asking for weekly wins.

Reflection is so important and that’s why I do it regularly to not only recap my previous week and form next week’s goals but also get in the mindset of searching for wins.

Oftentimes, one negative thing in a week or month, can bog us down and blind us from seeing ANY wins, but the truth is we have plenty of them.

Even during a lockdown and worldwide pandemic, we all have wins so focus on those and create some momentum.

  • STOP JUDGING OTHERS

Judging others is wasted time, energy, and not a good thing to do.

You never know what someone else is going through so stop judging and focus on helping.

  • BE NICE

Being nice goes a long way in this world.

We all know those people that get into social media catfights. After all, getting into a social media scuffle with someone you don’t even know generally ends well.

Stop wasting your time, focus on the good, and be the good!

  • BE A COFFEE BEAN

One of my favorite things about 2020 is reading “The Coffee Bean” and seeing Damon West speak live in February.

Inspirational is an understatement.

We all have three choices. When thrown into a pot of boiling water, we can be an egg and harden up, a carrot and soften up, or a coffee bean and turn into coffee, thus changing the environment.

Be the change. Be the coffee bean.

I’m looking forward to 2021 and big things happening at Adam Clark Fitness. We all have so much to be grateful for and I hope you were able to take something away from my 20 lessons of 2020.

Here’s to a great year ahead! Cheers!
