The definition of success

Good morning everyone and happy first Sunday of June! I hope you had a good week and are ready to kick off the month with a bang!

Today, I wanted to talk about success, specifically what it means and how we measure it.

Success is defined as “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.”

When you set a goal, you probably define success as reaching your goal. If you don’t reach it, most often you would deem that unsuccessful.

Success can be a tricky word and we get hung up on it. Of course, we want to be successful. For me, I want more clients, I want to build my business and I want to help more people.

Far too often though, we lose sight of our wins if we don’t reach that one goal.

For me, I have benchmarks that I want to hit. If I have a goal of 70 clients by the end of the month but only hit 60 clients and they are crushing it and I’m impacting them in a positive way, does it mean I’m unsuccessful?

Absolutely not. I just didn’t hit my numbers.

If you want to run a 5K in three months and haven’t run in years and complete 2.75 miles running and have to walk a little on race day, is that unsuccessful?

If we only measure and focus on running the 5K, it is.

That’s crazy talk. You went from the couch and almost finished a 5K. That’s progress.

Success comes in many forms and it’s important to not lose sight of that.

You are not defined by one measure.

Celebrate the wins, reflect upon the positives and strive for continual improvement.

If you lose two pants sizes and feel stronger than you’ve ever been, that’s a success. That’s winning. Who cares if the stupid scale doesn’t move. You are not defined by the scale.

You all have success inside of you.
